Project Description:
|
This project involves starting up a new lab, looking at the development of passive margins and overpressured shale tectonics though use of physical models.
Initial work will on the project will involve parameter testing the rheology of various modeling materials, and working out the scaling relationships to real world environments. The project will involve reading relevant scientific literature as well as running tests on materials (clay slurries) and assisting with designing and building a modeling apparatus. Depending on progress, initial experiments of passive margins will be run to look at the development of overpressured shales.
The project is specifically housed within the Hope College Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, but applicants are welcome from related fields (particularly engineering) as well.
Project is limited to Hope College students.
